WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States today issued an opinion allowing the Biden administration to end “Remain in Mexico,” an unlawful, Trump-era policy that has resulted in mass human suffering and abuses against people seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border. Freedom for Immigrants Launches Quarterly Detention Snapshot, Documenting Abuses and Acts of Internal Resistance

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Freedom for Immigrants (FFI) today launched its Detention Digest, a new report to be released quarterly, documenting human rights abuses committed in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention throughout the Spring of 2022. The report also includes examples of internal resistance and organizing by people in detention, in addition to examples of how immigration detention affects immigrant communities.

‘Long Overdue’: Visitation at Immigration Detention Facilities Finally Restored

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden administration today announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will terminate its detention contract with the Etowah County Detention Center in Alabama, in addition to reducing its use of three other immigration jails across the South.

Shut Down Glades Coalition Calls for Full Termination of ICE Detention Contract

MIAMI — This week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) transferred all remaining individuals in its custody out of the Glades County Detention Center in Moore Haven, Florida, and on Friday announced it will not renew a key provision of its contract with Glades County that required payment for 300 beds in the facility, also known as a guaranteed minimum. The agency also announced it would be “pausing” its use of the jail as an immigration detention center.

New Complaint Exposes Psychologist's Prejudiced and Unethical Conduct at San Diego Immigration Detention Center

SAN DIEGO — In a complaint filed today by a coalition of legal and advocacy organizations, 12 immigrants currently or previously detained in federal immigration custody at the Otay Mesa Detention Facility in San Diego have come forward to report severe mental health abuses at the hands of a psychologist whose pattern of negligence and misconduct further traumatized and endangered those who acknowledged risk of harm to themselves or others due to mental illness.
