WASHINGTON, DC – Following the peaceful protest of Black asylum seekers held at the Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center in Pine Prairie, Louisiana, the Cameroonian American Council (CAC), Freedom for Immigrants, ISLA Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy and Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) filed a complaint with the Department for Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) calling on the agency to immediately halt and investigate the violence and discriminatory practices against Black asylum seekers and for their immediate release from solitary confinement.

In addition to the dangers already faced by those in custody, including lack of access to medical care, COVID-19 continues to spread and the misuse of HDQ Neutral is causing physical harm to immigrants in ICE custody.

LOS ANGELES, California -- As part of Freedom for Immigrants commitment to building a world without detention, the organization has launched the Freedom100 Fund -- an impact investment opportunity designed to reunite families separated by the U.S. immigration detention system. There are thousands of people currently behind bars in ICE prisons that could be released to their families, however high bond amounts set by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or immigration judges keep them detained. The current system is inhumane and unsustainable.
